CORRIN (DM)

Hello everyone! I’m Corrin. D&D overtook my life 2 years ago and I’ve enjoyed every second of it. 5e is my main squeeze, but I’ve also dabbled with Powered by the Apocalypse (Uncharted Worlds and Monster of the Week) and Honey Heist. Pathfinder looks like a blast, but I just haven’t sat down to learn the system…yet. I’ve played through Curse of Strahd, Lost Mine of Phandelver, and a homebrew campaign based in Thanatos. My first foray into DMing was a homebrew game I started a little over a year and a half ago that’s still running today.

PWC came into being after waffling for a few months on asking people if they were interested in recording a podcast. I oh-so nonchalantly asked Aislyn if she was interested (okay, it was more like nervous-screamed it at her), and a few days later asked David and Kayla (less-screamy). Ander was asked a week later, and, well, everyone said “yes”. And thus, Power Word Crit was born!

Outside of PWC, I enjoy hanging with family and friends, sleeping, and watching my cats zoom through the house like maniacs.

AISLYN (IZZY)

Hello everyone! My name is Aislyn (ASH-lin), and I’ve been playing D&D 5E since early 2016. Since then, I’ve played in several campaigns—some homebrew, sometimes 2 or 3 different campaigns within a given week, and a smattering of one-shots. Of the published modules for D&D 5E, I’ve played Out of the Abyss, Curse of Strahd, Lost Mine of Phandelver, and Dragon of Icespire Peak. LMOP was my first time running a game as the DM (seriously, mad respect for all DMs/GMs in any TTRPG). Shout out to my fantastic group of unconventional players who completed every dungeon backwards. Long live Ma’s Stew!

Look at all the shiny click-clack math rocks!

Outside of playing D&D and my regular day job, I love to read fantasy/adventure stories (Harry Potter, Shannon Hale, Robin McKinley, Chronicles of Narnia, Rick Riordan, The Lunar Chronicles, to name a few). Other hobbies include singing, quoting movies (especially Disney and The Princess Bride), playing video games, and traveling. Recently, I’ve embraced my inner dice dragon and am actively working to build my dice collection.

Hey everyone I’m David and I guess I’m the old hat in this group since I am the one who introduced almost everyone else to dnd. For myself, I officially started playing RPGs back when 3e was in vogue, that’s 3.0, not the better remembered 3.5. Even before that storytelling and make believe was in my blood, and I’d made simple games that in hindsight looked a lot like dungeon crawls. After joining the dnd club at our school I got my first Player’s Handbook, and read it cover to cover. I had a wonderful time and made lifelong friends during that time, and for me it has often been a wonderful tool for finding new friends wherever I have lived.

I’ve played and run too many RPGs to easily number, but a short list includes:
DnD editions 2, 3, 4, and 5 Pathfinder 1e, The old edition of World of Darkness (Old WoD) with Mage, Vampire, Werewolf, Changeling, etc., Fate, Shadowrun editions 4 and 5, Star Wars RPG (various), and untold numbers of homebrew for whatever caught our interest enough to make.

I started being a game master shortly after I learned to play, with my siblings as the players. My parents got curious about what we were up to and soon after they were regularly involved in our games as well (It makes a great family night activity). In addition to RPGs, I enjoy wargaming, and have a collection of Warhammer 40k miniatures. I love reading, and as a child had access to my father’s collection of novels many of which were from the 1930s, so I had early exposure to H.G Well, Edgar Rice Burrows, Fritz Leiber, Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and Michael Moorcock. Later on I discovered H.P. Lovecraft and discovered that I love existential horror as well.

In 2015 my friends and I created an RPG group. I was the first GM and we played a science fiction game in a homebrew d10 system (looks a lot like Old WoD), the group we formed back then has been a fantastic success. Though the faces have changed as time has marched on, Power Word Crit is very much so a direct descendant of that group. We continue to play together, and during the 2020 pandemic we went digital to continue. I am very excited to be part of Power Word Crit, and hope that comes through in the games and characters you listen to.

Hi! My name is Kayla. I grew up playing D&D computer games such as Might and Magic, Baldur’s Gate, and Neverwinter Nights although I never played the pen and paper version with friends until 2016. My brother introduced me to the game when he would volunteer our apartment to host the game that week. I was able to listen to all of the shenanigans and fun that everyone had. It wasn’t until I started dating my husband (who was also a part of that group) that I finally decided to try out this game that he loved so much. I’ve been a consistent player now for years and have thoroughly enjoyed all the campaigns I have been in.

I have been blessed with many GMs over the past few years and have been able to play with many different systems. I started with D&D 5th edition, tried out several homebrew systems along the way, played a few campaigns in Starfinder (where I got the award “Most Other Party Members Killed by a Single Dice Roll”….I did warn them….) and most recently have been in a few Shadowrun 5th edition campaigns.

I am a nerd at heart and love playing computer games and reading books. I play a variety of games from hidden object games to first person shooters like Doom. I read a wide variety of books; everything from fantasy from David Eddings, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, to sci-fi from Anne Mccaffrey and Margaret Weis, to thrillers from authors like Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child, to various other fiction books by authors such as Laura Resnick, K. M. Shea and Jim Butcher.

I’m looking forward to this new adventure with sharing our games for everyone to listen to.

I’m Ander and I love rpgs! Most of my experience has been playing and dming D&D 5e, Powered by the Apocalypse games like Monster of the Week, and even tinkering with my own homebrew systems. I grew up watching my dad run classic games like Gamma World and Space 1889 for his siblings, so rpgs have been a part of my life for a long time.

My favorite Fantasy and Science Fiction authors include Terry Pratchett, Brandon Sanderson, Timothy Zahn, and Mike Shephard. The rest of my spare time goes to board gaming, open world RPGs, and crafting tabletop terrain.
